Morocco Monday

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to the 2nd edition of Morocco Monday.

Today we are touring the medieval medina of Fez. Here we will meet several very important felines, holding executive positions, to ensure the efficiency of the bazaar.

First, a brief explanation of the Medina of Fez. The Medina is a dense honeycomb of alleys about 4 feet wide. Every inch of space is filled with bazaars, cafes, shops, and people. It was founded in 808 c.e., around the time of Charlemagne. Since products and merchandise can be delivered only by donkey, about 7000 donkeys service this marketplace, including 400 owned by Coca-Cola (see pic below).

Here is a typical "street scene" in this medina.

Before we move on to the cats, here is a photo of one of the Coca Cola donkeys! What a life!
Inside the Medina is the oldest Koranic school in Morocco. Here we met the Hall Monitor.....
And the very dignified and prestigious, Headmaster.
Guess what!!! In Morocco, chickens are kept behind bars in prison boxes. And these prison boxes are guarded by specially trained felines. I present to you the Sargeant at Arms of the Poultry Police.
And of course, every market place has a grocery sections. Here the Produce Manager inspects the local tangerines.

Help Wanted-Pet Human Position Available

Well, I ran an ad on Craigslist tonight for a new pet human. I appreciate the advice from Sammy and Miles to run the ad on the Cat Blogosphere. Yet, I found my beloved SlyCat through a Craigslist ad.

Here is a link to the ad. Craigslist

If I get weak responses, I will post on the Cat Blogosphere.

I told my pet human to pack up and leave. But she started whimpering. That was after she shrieked when she put her foot in her shoe. Very pathetic. I held firm. Doesn't she know not to fool with matters of the heart????

Am I being too hard on her?

Sacking Saturday

The Pet Human has been SACKED! FIRED! GIVEN THE PINK SLIP!!!!!

My wonderful boyfriend, SlyCat of Evanston, Illinois, is now worried that I am falling out of love for him!!! NOT!!! This is all because my pet human has a stupid sense of humour. She thinks this is a funny hahahaha joke to make up things about me and the teddy dog. NOT!

Well, she hasn't seen the end of the retaliation yet. This is what she will find tomorrow when she wakes up.
Anyone out there have any ideas on how I can hire a new pet human???? Should I run an ad on Craigslist?

Morocco Monday

Welcome to TWKK's International Series, "Morocco Monday!"

As I promised, I have many photos of our feline friends in the African country of Morocco.

First, let's visit the well preserved medieval city of Fez. This city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason! The Medina (market place) has changed very little from the early days, around 808 c.e.

But some parts are very modern! Here are photos from the Menzeh Zalag Hotel in Fez, a very lovely and cosmopolitan establishment. I am proud to tell you that a very handsome and well mannered feline holds a very important position here.

I present to you the Chief Maitre D of the Menzeh Zalag Hotel. I am very impressed by his formal black attire!

Now let's go back briefly to the wild gardens of Chellah, just outside the Royal Palace in the capitol city of Rabat. Here we have a herd of cats (yes! a herd!) guarding the entrance to the sacred Roman pools. (also pictured is Hicham, our very capable tour guide!)
Something VERY EXCITING must be happening in the sacred pools, because everyone is fascinated, even the chicken!

Next week we will visit the medieval Medina of Fez. This market place is so old, they still deliver all the goods and products by donkeys. Over 7000 donkeys service this Medina, including 400, which are owned by Coca Cola!

Skittles, The Huntress

The War Begins

I am so happy my pet human has finally returned from her "vacation." I decided to forgive her for posting those photos of me with my teddy dog, so while she was gone, I decorated the house for Christmas. (Actually, my other pet humans, Julie and Bob helped, but I directed!)

She was so happy and surprised when she got home. See here I put out Christmas candles by the front door.
I put up a Christmas tree and decorated it, including an Angel on top and lots of presents already under the tree. Lots of Christmas Cheer!!!!!!!
Oh, and look how I decorated the living room. Wreaths and garlands and even the stockings hanging on the fireplace.

Wait........look closer.....what's that in the corner on the wood floor by the fireplace?????

Go ahead, my pet human, take a closer look...........closer...............closer.............
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a ..................MOUSE!!!!!

Man, did my pet human shriek!

I love decorating for Christmas! I'm as good as Martha Stewart, don't you think?

Back Online

My Pet Human Has Returned! I am back online, and ready to start posting all the fun shots of the human running into boobytraps. Boy, oh boy! I did a great job bugging the house! This is going to be fun. And she deserves it!

In the meantime, I would like to introduce a new feature, which will begin on Monday. The Whole Kitten Kaboodle will begin it's new International Series. The first series will be entitled, Morocco Monday. It begins on Monday, of course.

But here is a small sample of the exciting pictures to follow. We have many feline friends in Morocco, and many of them hold very important positions in key industries vital to the overall economy of Morocco. Each Monday, I will introduce you to several of these VIP's.

Here we have the Chief of Industrial Hygiene in Casablanca. She inspects the cleanliness of various street sweeping devices in the local Medina.

And here we have The Supreme Landscape Architect of Chellah. Chellah is a 14th century Merinid Necropolis with wild gardens, just outside the Royal Palace in Rabat.
Check back tomorrow for the first Boobytrap posting. My pet human has no idea what she is in for! Ha!

I saw what you did, my Pet Human. I saw the photos you posted. What's wrong with it? I have a teddy bear, so what's wrong with having a teddy dog? It's just a stuffed animal.

So now, it's WAR! Just you wait. I will booby trap this entire house while you are away in Morocco (and you still don't have my permission to abandon me!) There will be dead lizards, insects, and birds everywhere.....in your shoes, your closets......I will make sure to bug the whole house.....and I don't mean wiretapped!

I'm NOT happy!

Wildfire Recovery Update

Dear Friends,

Instead of Yoga Tuesday, I am publishing another Wildfire Recovery Update. Yoga may resume in a week or two.

Life for most of us in San Diego has returned to semi-normal. Yet, the impact of the fires is far reaching. My pet human started her new job just after the fires, and discovered one of her new co-workers lost her home in the fire. This last Saturday, the humans at her workplace held a bake sale to raise funds for a Thanksgiving Day basket for her.

The latest news on the causes of the fires is this: the California Department of Fire (yes, we have so many wildfires here, we have a state agency to deal with them) said officially, downed power lines were the cause of two of the worst fires, the Witch Creek Fire, and the Harris Fire.

So now attorneys will duke it out and try to separate San Diego Gas and Electric from a large sum of money in their deep pockets. Yet really, we will all pay ultimately in higher rates.

Here are some photos from the aftermath:

Residents in Escondido returned home to a destroyed mobile home park
This couple in Rancho Bernardo saved their own lives by staying submerged in their own swimming pool for over three hours until the fire had passed over them.
Horses can suffer from stress too. These horses were evacuated twice during the fires. The handlers had difficulties loading them into trailers.
What does a burned avocado look like?
The avocado agricultural business is very big in San Diego. Many farmers have lost their entire groves. This fire was different from others. Many grove owners in the past would turn on the irrigation system if a fire went through. This kept the fires low and to the ground. The crops and trees would be saved. This fire just obliterated the groves as seen below.
Qualcomm Stadium acted beautifully as an evacuation site. For the first San Diego Chargers game played there after the fires, tribute was payed to the victims.
And this Catholic church burned down, yet the following Sunday, Mass was held and Blessings and Communion shared.
Many thanks to all of you who have expressed an interest in being kept up to date on the recovery. The outpouring of love has been phenomenal!
