Wildfire Recovery Update

Dear Friends,

Many of you have sent me emails asking for an update on the recovery efforts after the wildfires. So here is the latest news.

I am very proud of the humans here in San Diego. We have many fund raising drives going on, and an outpouring of donations. Target gave $1,000,000 to recovery efforts, as did the San Diego Foundation.

Here's a link to a news article about an anonymous business man in Orange County who donated $1,000,000 to victims of the Santiago fire.

Here's a photo of what one family found remaining after their home burned down.

Our wild four legged friends are hurting. This poor raccoon is severely burned. I feel so bad for him!!!!!
This bobcat had his fur burned. What will he have to eat this winter?

Here is a link to a news article about the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary. In an effort to evacuate the 103 animals, they spent all their reserves and they are now broke.

This picture shows what Ramona residents faced when they returned home. Their water supply was tainted, and they were instructed to either boil their water or drink only bottled water.
Thank you signs are springing up all over the county!
Here is a link to an article about a thank you project gone wrong. A teacher had her pupils write thank you letters to firefighters, but unfortunately two of the students had lost their home! Oooops! I'm sure the teacher didn't mean for that to happen.
And finally here is a link to the latest buzz. Two lawsuits have been filed against San Diego Gas and Electric. The lawsuits contend that SDG&E failed to clear brush away from it's power lines. The attorneys say a downed power line and sparks caused the brush to catch fire.

My pet human says lawsuits were to be expected.

Thank you to all who sent emails asking for an update. I will keep everyone informed as more news hits the press.

Luv,
Skittles, The Huntress

The humans can go to the store, they can stay at a hotel or with relatives. They've lost things, yes some of them were precious momentos. They still have the memories...the animals have lost much more.

Those photos are heartbreaking. Seeing that photo of the raccoon who got burned really makes me realize how terrible it is for the wildlife. What are they going to do now? I am very sad.

This made us leaky. I hope someone took care of that poor raccoon.

we'll keep sending purrs and prayers their way. i hope someone donates trees and maybe can relocate "prey" food like mice and stuff for the bobcat to eat.

Thank you so much for the update! I feel very, very bad for that poor racoon and bobcat. I hope that all the wild furries make it through the winter ok. They don't have mommies and daddies to watch out for them like we do. I am still purring and praying very, very hard for all of the families and furries out there.

Your photos are some of the most dramatic ones I have seen on blogs. Some friends were affected by theses fires and all are OK. Wish people would think more about the animals, how would we live without them? Nature and it's inhabitants (natural ones!)... perfect harmony.
